Abstract
Objectives£ºThis study investigated the differences between patient and caregiver reported Quality of Life(QOL) in Alzheimer¡¯s disease(AD) and assessed the relationship of patient QOL and cognitive function, activities of daily living(ADL) and behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia(BPSD).

Methods£ºFifty-one patients with AD and their caregivers participated. Patient QOL was assessed using by the Korean version of Quality of Life-Alzheimer¡¯s Disease(KQOL-AD) scale. Each patient and caregiver rated the patient QOL. Korean version of mini-mental state examination(K-MMSE), ADL and neuropsychiatric inventory(NPI) were also assessed.

Results£ºThere were significant correlations between patients and caregiver reports of patient on mood, living situation, memory, family, marriage, friends, self as a whole, ability to do chores around the house, ability to do things for fun, money, and life as a whole, and total KQOL-AD scores. Patient ratings of patient QOL-AD were higher than caregiver ratings on most patient QOL measures. However, there were no significant differences between patient and caregiver ratings on any QOL item. QOL Scores of patient QOL were significant correlated with NPI scores, but were no significant correlated with K-MMSE and ADL scores.

Conclusion£ºCaregiver and patient reported QOL did not differ. Patients seem to be able to assess their own QOL properly although they have impairment in cognitive function or activities of daily living. BPSD of AD patients adversely affect patient QOL.
